What, Why and How?

Science is a course which explains how the world works. There are many different aspects of science to explain all of the phenomena that occur on a daily basis. Biology is a specific area of science that explains how living things work and their interactions. The nature of biology is to ask yourself ‘why does this occur?’ and then explore all possible outcomes until an answer is accepted. In today’s educational system the aspect of exploring to reach understanding has been neglected so we can “cover” the content. The inquiry portion of science, ‘why does this occur?’ is then thrown out the window. The role of science education should be to “uncover” the world through exploration not “cover” the content for a test. It is my goal to assist students of all abilities to “uncover” the world around us by using SMART interactive whiteboards and its accompanying software along with a SMART document camera to develop an understanding of the living world around us.
